Performance has been a major pain point for numerous BI deployments. Poor report performance, apart from being a reason for lower adoption rate of BI, has at times caused entire BI projects to fail.

BI developers have adopted multiple strategies like caching, aggregation, materialized views, database tuning etc. for performance enhancement. However, despite these strategies being fairly effective, consistent sub-second response times and speed-of-thought analytics has always been a distant dream.

Sustainment Quotient For Green Supply Chain

In the words of Aristotle: "Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." Original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and distributors these days are increasingly laying more and more emphasis on the social responsibility, working towards a greener supply chain. Organizations have realized that they have Community and Environment as their major stakeholders. Therefore the excellence each organization is aspiring for is truly the green supply chain they are ingrained in. It is important to be profitable and at the same time remain sustainable.

CRM to CXM to C3E - Innovation or Evolution?

While CXM (Customer Experience Management) was floated as a concept almost a couple of years ago, it seems quite recent in wake of the fact that CRM (Customer Relationship Management) has been the mainstay of enterprises worldwide for almost 2 decades now. Despite the fact that most of the organizations are yet to latch on to this, and the fact that the ones who have latched on are yet to mature the concept when implemented on ground, the industry is looking for something newer already. The new acronym on the block is C3E (Cross-Channel Customer Experience), and at least for now it seems to satisfy everyone's appetite for innovation.

Reverse Logistics For A Forward Thrust To Sustainment Quotient

One of the key technology focus areas in Green Supply Chain Management that enables an organization to transition into a sustainable organization is Supply Chain Network.  Logistics Optimization also goes hand in hand with this. It is true beyond doubt that a responsive supply chain is also a responsible supply chain, it is more environmentally and socially responsible. Not only is it plausible it is also more financially viable resulting in a higher sustainment quotient as well as higher benefit factor. Supply Chain Network and Logistics Optimization can lead to reductions in empty and circuitous miles, and also increased warehouse capacity utilization. Organizations need to look at the process and operational best practices to improve upon their sustainment quotient. The higher the quotient, the greener the supply chain and hence the greener the dividend pastures as mentioned earlier.

The importance of critical Business Intelligence (BI) lies with the bottom lying fact that whatever good or bad it delivers as quickly as possible. The basic objective for every organization is "Pervasive BI" right information to the right person at the right time.

The focus of the technology community has been shifting recently from Cloud, to Mobility, to Social Media, and now to Big Data. We are good at creating something new and keeping the CIOs busy with replete choices for their next-gen organization, or as we like to call it in Infosys - Tomorrow's Enterprise. But recently the foray into Big Data from various segments has drawn mixed perceptions, ranging from "solving the unsolvable" to "a solution searching for the problem". I would like to put both view across and let you decide.

Relational databases have been the backbone for decades, on which Enterprises have been taking business decisions and basing their strategies. For some that data set's been growing leaps and bounds with their business, and global footprint.Careful examination reveals that we are still talking about strucutred data thus far, while there's been a revolutionary change in the unstructured, semi-structured world of Information management.

Oracle Project Resource Management (PJRM) is a self-service application in Oracle Enterprise applications and provides a solution to effectively manage resource allocation on projects in project centric organizations.  PJRM has been a buzz word in PPM when Oracle started rolling out PPM solutions to its customers. The effective goal of implementing PJRM application is to find the right people for the right projects at the right time which is ultimately achieved by streamlining the demand and supply of resources in an organization. Project Resource Management considers only labor resources and assignment of those resources at the Project level only (not at task level) and is a not time based application.

Suppose you want to buy a new mobile handset? What are you most likely to do? Go to the web and look for the latest models in the market? There are plenty of sites listing all the models and their features and prices. But is that information really useful? Some phone might be really attractive looking with all the advanced features, but you might not need them at all! And thus, even after all those "research" you end up buying the "wrong" product for yourself, because you got lost in the ocean of information and you were not helped to navigate meaningfully through that information! Just like it happened with Mr. Robert! Mr. Robert is a middle-aged man and senior executive at a manufacturing firm. Most of his workday is spent in meetings and visits at the company's several offices and plants spread across the city and its suburbs. While in transit, he checks his emails and responds to them and also directs his team on their tasks. In the midst of his busy schedule, he does not find time to play the different apps available on his high-end mobile. Nor is he much inclined towards socializing on the web. Thus these features are not of much use although he had paid a hefty sum to buy this mobile phone. Moreover he gets confused with all the heavy applications and finds it difficult to navigate.

Today, there is a need for Telco's, which are service-focused, to evolve rapidly in order to keep pace with the constant demand for personalized, real-time service delivery to customers.

In the currently changing telecom business, waiting for information, answers and support is a no-no for customers - they want assistance right away. Employees like Customer Service Reps, Field Agents, etc. also need to feel confident that they have access to a current, relevant knowledge base, so they can perform to the customer's expectations.

We are all aware of the statistics around customer retention vs new customer acquisition.
The cost of acquiring a new customer is 6-7 times higher than retaining an existing customer."
"Profitability can be improved by 5 to 95% by boosting customer retention by a much as 5%."

Improving customer loyalty is key to increasing retention. And how do you increase customer loyalty? While there are many different aspects to loyalty, the first and foremost, in my mind, is through delivering a great customer experience. What is sustainability reporting?

In a fairly recent trend, many organizations put equal importance on producing non-financial reports as part of annual disclosures. Sustainability report is the foremost of them and is mostly done voluntarily to show a company's commitment towards accountability and transparency.

Essbase is an established multidimensional database platform to build analytical reporting and financial solution. As this analytical solution deals with huge volume of data along with complex and varied retrieval needs of users across an enterprise, the focus has always been to design the cube in order to optimize performance. The product however has its own set of best design principles but when applied in practical situations, we as developers face a choice between following the design principles and meeting the business requirement.

"Issues around performance are a byproduct of customizing any Essbase cube in order to include the dynamics of real world reporting and analysis"

With the introduction of a new appliance from Oracle's Exa Fleet of products, "Exalytics" which comes with the capability of placing the entire Essbase cube in the RAM and reporting over it, the performance gains expected are huge along with improved capability to take care of Parallelism and concurrency.  This vastly claims to reduce data query response time and facilitate faster and timely availability of analytical data, much required in today's dynamic and competitive market where actionable insight is the key to success. Exalytics appliances claim to scan databases at a rate of 200GB/sec.

Supply chain management is a core function of any organization which sells/buys/utilizes products and services. It empowers an organization to work on margin improvisation and improve on working capital. However, organizations in a quest to satisfy customer requirement, may end up piling up stocks, build redundancy in spare parts or consumables. An effective supply chain solution in an organization must address this in every aspect like stock procurement plan, stock rotation, demand planning, fulfillment and warehouse operations.

In this blog, I provide an overview of Oracle supply chain management of Oracle Fusion suite and briefly touch upon the supply chain industry trends. In the next part, I will bring forward our point of view on how Oracle Fusion supply chain management caters to these industry needs.

During Oracle Open World 2011, Oracle announced Siebel Open UI, the new paradigm for enabling a standards based, rich and versatile UI for Siebel applications.

Most of us, practicing CRM professionals, would have experienced the typical CRM program lifecycle. With much fanfare and excitement, an organization embarks upon a business transforming CRM program. The CRM application is a key enabler for this program. For a typical, on-premise COTS implementation, most organizations start with the noble intent of leveraging vanilla capabilities. Over time, more and more features and capabilities are implemented, resulting in a highly complex application that is disliked by the end users.
