M2M - Hitting the next frontier in Communications

For those who might be new to it, Machine to machine (M2M) refers to technologies that allow both wireless and wired systems to communicate with other devices of the same ability. It is thus the next step in automation. Let's take a simple application of a heart rate monitoring device for a cardiac patient. The device continually monitors and reports the medical stats collected to a central hub, which is programmed with the intelligence to alert emergency services in case any abnormalities are detected. The communication here is from machine and to machine, and the end-to-end automation cycle may or may not require any human intervention.
